County Jail Care Packages
County jails set their own package rules. Identify the receiving institution, compare listed contents, and review its mailing, vendor, and recipient requirements instead of applying a state-prison policy.
County jail packages are not state-prison packages
County jails and state prisons have different operators, recipient populations, and package systems. A state corrections department's permitted-item list does not automatically apply to a county jail. Larger counties may operate multiple locations with different mailing instructions. Confirm the recipient's current site rather than shipping to a county office, courthouse, or visitation address.
Food, hygiene, clothing, or a mixed care package?
Read the chosen package's exact contents and quantities. A jail may accept one product category but prohibit another, or require purchases through a designated commissary provider. A bundle's name does not establish eligibility. For Rikers Island, our dedicated rules prohibit mixed bundles, food, toiletries, footwear, bedding, and books; consult the Rikers guide for clothing, writing supplies, and magazines.
Booking numbers, transfers, and delivery addresses
Use the recipient's full legal name, required booking or identification number, and complete inmate package mailing address. Check the current location and eligibility, especially after a transfer or housing change. A directory listing helps identify a facility but is not proof of vendor approval or a verified package mailing address. Contact support if the available delivery information is incomplete.
Checkout, turnaround, and acceptance
You can purchase without obtaining prior facility approval, but acceptance is not guaranteed. For eligible outside-store deliveries, Shopify presents current prices, shipping, taxes, and the final amount before payment. Normal shipping turnaround is 3-4 business days; carrier travel and jail intake add time. If the jail requires a particular provider, use its official channel rather than assuming an outside-store purchase qualifies.
How to Order County Jail Care Packages for an Inmate
Locate the actual jail
Use the state and county directories; county names alone may not identify the receiving site.
Review current restrictions
Compare the actual contents with item, vendor, quantity, and recipient rules.
Prepare the mailing details
Use the recipient's full name, required booking or identification number, and verified mailing address.
Review and pay securely
Shopify confirms current charges before payment; acceptance remains the receiving jail's decision.

Frequently Asked Questions — County Jail Care Packages
Can I send a care package to any county jail?
Not every jail accepts outside-vendor parcels. Check the specific jail's current rules and recipient eligibility. A listing or package name does not guarantee acceptance.
What is the difference between a county jail package and a commissary deposit?
A package ships physical products. A deposit funds the jail's account or commissary system. Each uses its own rules and delivery or payment channel.
What recipient information is needed for county jail delivery?
Use the full legal name, required booking or identification number, current receiving jail, and complete inmate mailing address. Administrative and visitation addresses may not accept parcels.
Do I have to obtain facility approval before paying?
Prior approval is not a checkout requirement. You still need complete delivery details, and the receiving jail decides acceptance. If it requires a designated provider, follow its official instructions.
Does this guide include every US state's county jails?
Our public correctional directory excludes Arizona, Missouri, Oregon, and New Hampshire. Those exclusions do not remove residential shopping. Use the supported-state directory and the specific receiving institution's current rules.
