Food & Snack Packages for Inmates
Compare food care packages and snack options for eligible correctional recipients. Read the listed contents and the receiving facility's current rules; a product listing is not vendor approval or a guarantee of acceptance.
Food packages versus commissary snacks
Commissary snacks purchased through a facility's account or designated program are not the same as a parcel ordered from an outside retailer. A deposit adds funds to an account; a retail package ships physical products. Confirm which option the institution permits. Ordering here does not enroll a recipient in an agency-operated food-package program.
What to check in an inmate food package
Compare the listing's contents, individual sizes, sealed packaging, container materials, and total quantities. Check the receiving institution's current food restrictions and the recipient's eligibility. Shelf-stable does not automatically mean permitted. Do not assume fresh, refrigerated, homemade, or opened foods can be delivered because another facility accepts commercially packaged snacks.
State-prison and county-jail food requirements
Secure Care Essentials does not offer food packages for any county jail. State-prison food programs are separate and may require designated providers or seasonal ordering windows. Follow the relevant official program when required rather than treating an outside-store purchase as authorized.
Shipping and final price
For eligible outside-store orders, provide the recipient's complete mailing details and review the final amount at Shopify checkout. Normal shipping turnaround is 3-4 business days after payment; carrier transit and facility intake are additional and vary. Food-package acceptance is determined by the receiving institution, not by the label on a product card.

Frequently Asked Questions — Food & Snack Packages
Are commissary snacks and outside food packages the same?
No. Commissary purchases and deposits use the facility's own system or provider. An outside retail food parcel is a separate delivery and must comply with the receiving institution's package policy.
Are shelf-stable snacks automatically permitted in prison?
No. Sealed packaging, ingredients, quantities, vendor requirements, and recipient eligibility vary by institution. Check current destination rules before selecting a food package.
Can I send food packages to Rikers Island?
No. Our Rikers rules prohibit food delivery. Use the dedicated Rikers page for permitted clothing, writing supplies, and magazines.
How long do inmate food packages take to arrive?
Normal shipping turnaround is 3-4 business days after payment. Carrier transit and facility intake add time, and acceptance is not guaranteed.
